Biotech Student Entrepreneurship Contest:

The scheme for promotion of student entrepreneurs in biotechnology, BEST 2016, has been now opened for participation. The last date for submission of ideas is September 15, 2016.

BEST 2016, the Biotech Student Entrepreneurship facilitation program for 2016 has been announced. This unique program encourages Biotech students to submit business ideas to explore the possibility of pursuing the spirit of discovery, development, and entrepreneurship.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be necessarily enrolled as students who are currently pursuing their masters (including 5 year integrated post graduate degree), doctoral degree, BE or B.Tech courses, 4yr BSc. Agri programme and other four/three year professional courses in the areas of life sciences (bioscience/ biotechnology/ biochem/ microbio / biophysics/ bioengineering/ food and/ or related subjects) from Indian universities/Institutes..

Team should:
** There should be 5 members in a team
** At least two members in the team of five should have Life science background. In case where all the 5 team members are pursuing masters in other discipline/s (say Management), minimum two members should hold a life science undergraduate degree.
** Each team will submit only one entry. A participant can be a member of only one team.
** The proposals could be either for product, service or an application.
** Candidates should not have been selected for Top-20 in earlier BEST seasons

Theme For BEST 2016:
Proposals should focus on solutions/diagnostic kits that detect and or remove the contaminants or manage waste. These solutions need to be affordable and usable by any person and be ready to use within 12 months.
** Water Contamination
** Food Borne Pathogens
** Waste Management
** Bioengineering – Diagnostics & Solutions for important diseases (Human, Crops, Livestock) including devices, kits, chip-based tools etc.
** Water Management (drinking & Irrigation

What Next?:
The shortlisted TOP 20 Teams will get the opportunity to attend BEST India 2016 an Entrepreneurship Workshop where eminent leaders from business and academia will hone your skills to convert your ideas into an effective business plan and introduce you to aspects like proof-of-concept, IPR, managing funds, licensing and strategic alliances for starting a venture. All participants may get an opportunity to attend, while the winners to present in BIOINVEST.

Top 5 Teams Will Be Awarded:
** 1st Prize Rs. 5, 00, 000/- for Winning team
** 2nd Prize Rs. 3, 00, 000/- two teams each
** 3rd Prize Rs. 2, 00, 000/- two teams each
