ESG Science Fair :

Exciting Science Group is inviting project submission from students of class 8th and 9th for their local Fair in Pune. This fair is being conducted by ESG with generous support from CSIR-NCL, IISER-Pune, Venture Center, the Praj Foundation the Nag Foundation, the Forbes Marshall Foundation and the Persistent Foundation.

Eminent scientists from CSIR-NCL and IISER-Pune will be judging the selected projects. Winners of the ESG Science Fair 2016-17 get a chance to win attractive cash prize, a trophy and a certificate. All selected participants for the final round will get the opportunity to present their work to scientists from NCL and IISER-Pune.

Eligibility:
The students who satisfy all the criteria below are eligible for submitting project to ESG Science Fair:
1. Students must be enrolled in class 8 or 9 while submitting the project.
2. A student or a team can submit only one project for the fair.

Project Team Composition:
A project may be done by one individual student or a Team consisting of maximum two students.

Project Category: Class 8 and 9 only

Subject Category:
Projects from following subject category are allowed to be submitted:
1. Energy 7. Biology
2.Engineering 8.Maths
3.Environment 9.Behavioural Science
4.Physics 10.Technology*
5.Chemistry
6.Computer Science & Engineering

Note: participating student must be familiar with the programming concepts and hardware used.

Project Qualification:
Your project must be the original work done by you. It should be supported by data collected from experimentation. Engineering projects should have a basic working prototype. It could also be a structured experimentation bringing about known results. Science essays, survey, mere idea or a thermocol based model explaining certain behaviour do not qualify for ESG Science Fair.

Project Submission:
1. All the entries must be submitted online at http://www.excitingscience.org/ before the midnight of Friday, 20th January 2017 (Submission will open by Tuesday, 1 November 2016)
2. It is suggested that you already have the answers to all the questions typed in a notepad like editor. Once you are ready, paste all the answers appropriately and make your submission.
3. Once you make a submission, you will be allowed to upload a pdf file that may contain any additional reference material, photographs etc.
4. To verify your submission, you can use View Submission on the portal.
5. All the projects must fill the Form-1: Risk Assessment Form (shown below) and bring it to the fair once selected.
6. At appropriate Last Dates, students are expected to visit the website and look at next steps. Where ever possible, an email will be sent to the primary participant.

Project Selection Process:
1. After the Last Date, your project will be evaluated by ESG & projects will be shortlisted.
2. You must visit the website again to know about your project selection.
3. The website will have the details of your selection to the ESG Fair.
4. At any point, Judges may call the participants for getting clarity and any additional information.

Judging Criteria:
Judging will be done using the following broad criteria:
1. Novelty – 10 points
2. Scientific thought / Engineering goals – 10
3. Scientific Method / Engineering Design – 10 points
4. Data Management – 10
5. Applications – 10

General Rules:
1. The selected project participants shall not be allowed to use mobile or other electronic instruments during the fair if it is unrelated to the project.
2. Replacement of any participant of a team is not allowed after registration. In case of absenteeism of one participant from the registered team, the remaining participant has to compete as a team.
3. Any requests for swapping of participants within the teams from a particular school will not be permitted after the Last Date for registration.
4. The organizers retain the right to make any changes in the event, its format, and rules and in any matter related to this event, at any time before or during the event.
