Kalpana Competition :

** Kalpana 2016 is a nationwide innovation and fabrication competition organized by Tata Centre for Technology and Design (TCTD). In its second edition this year, it is open to all Indian citizens aged 18 – 30, and is a part of TCTD’s engagement with the society at large.

** Kalpana’s aims are manifold, the foremost being to impart critical hands-on fabrication and prototyping skills to college students and youth. The competition provides a platform and the resources for innovative ideas from the community and attempts to realize them using the unique TCTD approach.

** Through the two phases of this competition, TCTD hopes to generate a pool of interesting and workable ideas that can be pursued while identifying talented and motivated manpower. Kalpana 2016 will build on the success of the inaugural Kalpana 2015 edition and enhance scope and innovation across India. Submissions for Round 2 would be accepted from 30th April(5 p.m.) to 15th May, 2016(5 p. m.)

Note:
The solutions are aimed at evaluating you as per the points mentioned in the judging criteria for this round. We don’t expect a prototype in Round 2. Once the team is registered there will be no change of members among different teams.

Phases:
The 2 Phases of the event will remain open from March to July 2016. Phase 1 comprises of 3 rounds – Screening Round, Advancing Round and Final Round, respectively. Phase 2 aims at converting the prototype into a market viable product for which business and technical mentoring will be offered to the selected 5 teams. (2 winning teams + 3 wild card entries from the top 200 teams)

Note:
Half of the prize money will be deducted if the winning team does not opt for 2nd phase i.e the ultimate phase. In addition to the fabrication event – Nirmiti, a poster-based ideation competition – Drishtikon – will be held in parallel. This aims at encouraging participants to identify and propose innovative futuristic solutions to their proposed problems, in the form of posters.

Phase I:
Round I – Screening round:
** Registrations open from March 30 to April 25, 2016
** Last date of Submission – April 25, 2016
** Results – April 29, 2016

Round II – Advancing round:
** Submissions open from April 30 to May 15, 2016
** Last date of Submission – May 15, 2016
** Results – May 25, 2016

Round III – Final round:
** Nirmiti(Prototyping) – June 22 to June 29, 2016
** Drishtikon(Poster-making) – June 27 to June 29, 2016
** Presentation of the concept and showcase of the prototype – June 29, 2016
** Results – June 29, 2016
** Valedictory function – June 29, 2016 followed by dinner

Phase II:
Ultimate Phase:
** Mentorship phase from June 30 to July 21, 2016

Rules :

** Competition is open to all Indian citizens in the age group of 18 – 30.
** Participants have to register as a team comprising of three members of their choice.
** Once the team is registered there will be no change of members among different teams.
** The name of the team will be retained throughout the competition and cannot be changed.
** After registration, a verification link will be sent to all the participants on their registered email id. Confirmation on this verification link is mandatory for all the participants.
** Each team has to register online on tatacentre.org/kalpana to participate in Kalpana 2016. A number of Problem Statements will be floated.
** The registered teams have to select any ONE of the given problem statements and submit a textual solution in given word limit. The team has to also upload an image to support the solution.
** The teams are not allowed to submit solutions to more than one problem.
** The selected teams for the Final Round and the Ultimate Phase will have to show their identity proof (College ID, PAN card, driving license or Aadhaar card) which display their age at that time at TCTD, IIT Bombay.
