Painting & Essay Writing Competition :

The Central Board of Secondary Education joins hands with the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt. of India, in its commitment to make oil conservation a national movement.

As a part of its shared mandate, various literary and cultural events are conducted for school students.

The essay writing and poster drawing competitions aim to raise awareness among youth about practical conservation tips for the conservation of petroleum in industrial, transportation, agriculture and domestic contexts, and how to practice such conservation in their daily lives.

For effective communication, students may choose to present their ideas and messages about conserving petroleum products and reducing emissions, in English, Hindi or regional languages.

About the competitions:
1. Eligibility: Students of classes VI-IX, studying in CBSE affiliated schools

2. Schedule of Events: 14th August to 30th September 2015

3. Essay writing Themes & Languages:
One student can participate in only one of the languages- Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Maithili, Dogri, Nepali, Bodo and Santhali. Students can pick any of the following themes for writing an essay, which should not exceed 500 words:
a. Why should I conserve fuel and how?
b. How to make fuel conservation a habit?
c. Role of children in making fuel conservation a national movement

4. Painting Theme:
‘Fuel Conservation – Self, Family, Society and Nation’

Use only A3 size art sheet. The work may be executed using pencils, pencil colours, crayons, water colours etc. The following to be kept in mind, namely, relevance of the theme, execution of concept/theme, overall visual appeal handling of given space and use of appropriate colour combination. On top of the drawing sheet, students should mention ‘PETROLEUM CONSERVATION RESEARCH ASSOCIATION (PCRA) PAINTING COMPETITION 2015’.

Stages of the school-level competitions:
Stage A:
The Painting Competition for two hours and the Essay Writing Competition for one hour is to be conducted by the School.

Note:
Weightage shall be given more to content, innovative/ unique ideas on conservation of petroleum fuels.

Procedure for submission:

** There is no entry fee.
** No individual entry will be entertained.
** Schools can participate in either or both competitions.
** The participating school will send the scanned copy or clear photograph of the best entry of the painting and essay competitions, along with an undertaking as per the given annexure 01, to: competitions2015@pcra.org.
** The entry of the school should reach by email, immediately after the result of the school –level competition, no case, later than 30.09.15, 1500 hours.
** Entries received without the completed format as per the Guidelines sent directly by students, their parents or received as hard copy, will not be accepted.
** The Principal also has to certify the number of participants in the competition.
** The school should retain all submitted entries in original, as entries that are shortlisted for the final round, when contacted, will be required to be submitted in original to PCRA.

Note:
The final results shall be announced in December 2015.The awards will be distributed in the inaugural function of the Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight 2016, during the 2nd half of January 2016.

School Heads are directed to publicize the themes and the details of the competitions to the teachers in charge and students well in advance, so as to enable the participants to obtain relevant information from various sources. They may also visit PCRA’s website: www.pcra.org
