World Food India Hackathon :

Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India is organizing a mega international food summit, World Food India in New Delhi from 3 – 5 November 2017.

A Hackathon would be organized coinciding with the World Food India event.
Problem Statement : Awareness & Training on GHP, GMP and Policies for Food Processing Sector

Description :
Food safety is a growing concern across the world. Food is a very complex commodity which directly related with health. Processing of agricultural produce consists of various product specific unit operations. For maintaining the quality products, various product food laws, standards and regulations are required.

There is an increasing need to provide greater assurance to domestic and international consumers about safety and quality of processed food and be globally competitive and where GHP, GMP and different polices for food processing and relevant regulatory information can provide a pivotal role.

Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Hygiene Practices based on Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules and Regulations and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems for sensitizing Food Business operators like Food Manufacturers, Processors, Catering, Hotels, Restaurants, Exporters, Importers, Distributors Retailers, Consumers and others.

The new Food Safety Standards regulations are contemporary in view and are aligned to Codex General Principles of Hygiene. The Act ensures consumer safety by mandating a structured food safety system for all Food Business Operations.

In spite of various laws, standards and regulations, producers and consumers don’t take care about these while producing and consuming of foods, which reflects the lack of awareness and proper training.

For this an apps and proper training program need to be designed on which processor, producer and consumer can get proper information regarding the GHP, GMP and polices for food processing including relevant regulatory information.

Objective :
The Food Processing Industry is one of the largest industries in India and ranks fifth in terms of production, consumption and exports. Food processing industry in India is a sunrise sector that has gained prominence in the recent years. Availability of raw materials, changing lifestyles and appropriate fiscal policies has given a considerable push to the industry’s growth.

This sector serves as a vital link between the agriculture and industrial segments of the economy. To design solutions by leveraging technology for various problems in the food processing sector.

Eligibility Criteria :
** Participation in the WFI Hackathon-2017 is free and open to on all individuals, start – ups, IT professionals who can design a solution to the problem statements.
** Enrollment is not confirmed until the WFI Hackathon-2017 team contacts the participant and assigns mentors, next steps, etc.
** Enrollment may be terminated at any point by a representative of WFI Hackathon-2017 if a participant violates any rules.
** A team can consist of maximum 5 participants.

** Create an account on MyGov mygov.in
** Go to website nnovate.mygov.in and click on the ” World Food India Hackathon 2017″ icon. This will direct you to contest page
** Fill up all the details, asked in the registration form Verify all the fields before submitting the form.
** You will not be allowed to make any edits post your submission
** Click Submit
** Upon successful submission You will see a success message
** All correspondence shall be through email provided by you at the time of registration.
** Organizers are not liable in case of email delivery failures

Selection Criteria :
** Proposed solution must address one or many of the problem statements
** Solution must not have been show-cased in other forums

Awards :
** All participating teams will receive participation certificate.
** 1st Prize – Rs 1,00,000 /-
** 2nd Prize – Rs 75,000 /-
** 3rd Prize – Rs 50,000 /-

General Guidelines, Terms and Conditons :
** The contest is open to participants of all nationalities.
** The decision of Panel of Experts will be final and binding.
** Organizers will provide seamless infrastructure to support your participation in WFI Hackathon 2017. Electricity, Internet and Wifi will be provided free of charge. There will be presentation equipment should you need it during judging.

** By making a submission in the contest, all participants warrant and represent that to the best of their knowledge, their submission is original and does not violate or misappropriate any third party trade secret, “know-how,” copyright, patent or other intellectual property right.

Participants also warrant and represent that there are no obligations of any nature, legal or otherwise, which would prohibit, restrict, or interfere with their participation in the Contest or submission of their design report, and agree to obtain any necessary clearances, authorizations and/or approvals prior to participation.

** By submitting an app for WFI Hackathon – 2017, participants grant the MoFPI a royalty-free license

** Post on MoFPI and associated websites information about the application including, but not limited to, details about the storyline, characters, screenshots, etc., and a link to the downloadable application in the online store of the applicable software platform (e.g. Android Play Store, Apple Store) or, if not sold through such platform, to your website.

** Publicize the names of Competition participants (including the individual members of a team) and winners, and their Applications through media and events of the organizer’s choosing.
** Deploy or otherwise utilize the application.
** The participants agree that no information submitted by the participants will be treated by MoFPI as confidential.

** Ministry of Food Processing Industries does not claim ownership over Intellectual Property Right (IPR) for the Innovation that is sent to us by submitting an application. The IPR shall remain with the applicant at all times. However, we request you to not include any information that you may not want to share publicly.

** No licenses under any technology, trade secrets, “know-how”, or any copyrights, patents, trademarks or other intellectual property rights of MoFPI are granted to participants under the contest.
