Mahendi Contest :
** Mahendi (aka Heena ) is a tattoo art traditionally practiced over generations.
** The most remarkable part about Heena is that it knows no bar, be it age, culture, sect, religion, ceremony or just for the beauty of it.
** Gauri Vrat, a celebration of womanhood, is a traditional festival in the challenging geographical area of western India.
** Young girls in the age group of 5 to 17 abstain from eating regular food and limit themselves to partial fasting by consuming dry nuts , resins, and food cooked without salt for 5 consecutive days.
** The vedic principle behind this practice is aimed at cleansing the body, and training to survive on limited supply of food.
** The experience helps an unwed girl to understand the importance of nutrition, health care and survival endurance in times of scarcity and calamity.
** Although we live in comfortable times today the traditional practiced are continued because of the high religious and ethical values attached to it.
** Young girls who under go this partial fast enthusiastically participate and dress up for the occasion.
** Goddess Parvati is known to have kept this fast for the wellbeing of her husband Lord Shiva.
** Gauri one more name of Goddess Parvati hence the festival Gauri-Vrat (fast )
** No festival in india is complete without henna design on the hands of all the women
