Katástasi 2015 Internship Based Case Writing Competition:
FCRC, the Case Research Centre at Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB), is organizing Katástasi 2015, an Internship Based Case Writing Competition for the Management students (MBA/PGDM) of business schools and allied courses who wish to engage in writing a management case based on their summer internship or class project work experience.

The Competition derives its name from Greek word, Katastasi, meaning ‘situations’. It is a unique initiative of FIIB Case Research Centre (FCRC) to project the Student Internship or other Class Project experiences in the form of a Case. This will encourage and reward the students substantially with much sought after skill of Case Writing. The student/ intern may choose a Faculty Mentor to guide through the case -writing process.

Case writing stimulates critical intellectual abilities of a student empowering them with deeper and wider understanding of changing business scenarios. Generally, cases are written by faculty and not students. Since ‘internship’, class or live projects are integral part of the curricula at most higher education institutions, the students are exposed to practical experiences. Such experiences have the potential to be exploited for developing cases that involve business issues/problems along with their solutions. Describing such experiences through case writing gives a leap to the analytical skills of the students as they are not only solving but also knitting a story by putting together the situations, issues and relevant information.

About FCRC:
FCRC, which stands for FIIB’s Case Research Centre, is a Centre of excellence set up in 2011 by Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB) for promoting and researching case-based teaching and case writing in the Indian context to management faculty in business schools. We at FCRC understand very well that case teaching is critical to business education quality in India and many of the faculty members do use cases to support their teaching, but a difficult issue related to this is to have a continuous supply of effective case method teachers as well as a continuous supply of new management cases which are relevant to local business environment. Since case writing is not an easy task for all management faculty members, currently our main goal at FCRC is to research on simpler methods of case writing and student-driven case writing. This event of Student Case Writing Workshop-cum-Competition is part of FCRC’s case writing research. Another research project underway at FCRC is ‘case-framing methodology’ for case writing.

FCRC is staffed and supported by FIIB faculty who have considerable experience in writing and teaching cases and whose cases have been published by Asia Case Research Centre, Hong Kong and Ivey Case League, Canada. All enquiries related to FCRC should be sent at fcrc@fiib.edu.in
