Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has declared the theme for World Food Day 16th October 2015 as- Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty.

This theme has been chosen to highlight its importance in reducing rural poverty and granting access to food or means to buy food. Social protection translates into a variety of programmes around food security that enhances income, provides rights and builds capacities. Social protection also provides solutions for combating malnourishment issues which weaken the future economy of a nation.

Some facts:

** In India, food problem does not mean unavailability of food but deficit of proper nutritious food.
** As much as 40% of all fruits, vegetables and food grains grown in India never make it to the market.
** India is one of the world’s fastest growing economies with about 7% overall economic growth over the past decade….,yet 40% of Indian children remain chronically malnourished …
** Juvenile diabetes, malnourishment, deficiency diseases, anaemia, obesity among children are the result of ignoring the importance of nutrition

In this context, the Board recommends that schools may conduct a number of interesting activities to raise awareness while celebrating World Food Day-2015, as students are the Agents of Change.
