NHRC’s Short Film Award Scheme 2015:
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) invites short films/spots for its ‘Short Film Award Scheme – 2015’. The film/spot may be in any technical format, advocating promotion and protection of human rights. These may be in any Indian language with sub-titles in English or in Hindi for films in English. The prize money for the first, second and third film will be Rs.1 lakh, Rs.75 thousand and Rs.50 thousand, respectively.

The terms and reference of the award scheme are as follows:
i) Who can compete – Any Indian citizen can send his/her entry.

ii) Theme of films – human rights issues.*

iii) Language of film – Any Indian language with sub-titles in English or English.

iv) Duration of the film – Duration of the short film/spot should not be more than 10 minutes.

v) Jury – A Jury, comprising in-house members and outside experts, will select the winners.

vi) Film format – Short films may be shot in any technical format, shot on any camera set-up or in animation

vii) Method to apply – The envelope containing entries accompanied by the prescribed duly filled in application form** along with the film’s DVD should be addressed to the Information & Public Relations Officer, National Human Rights Commission, Manav Adhikar Bhawan, ‘C’ Block, GPO Complex, INA, New Delhi – 110 023 and submitted by hand or by post. The DVD should be carefully packed to avoid damage and should clearly mention “Entry for short film award on human rights issues”.

viii) Last date – The entries received after the 30th September, 2015 will not be entertained.

ix) NHRC will have the right to screen the award winning films at its discretion.

x) Films/Spots sent once for NHRC’s award scheme may not compete again for this scheme in future.

xi) Each application should have one film only.

xii) There is no bar on number of films sent by an individual for competing in the NHRC’s Short Film Award Scheme.

Note:
The themes of short films could be broadly-based on various socio-economic, cultural and political rights. The film could be a documentary, dramatization of real stories or a work of fiction, in any technical format, including animation, within the ambit of right to life, liberty, equality and dignity and covering issues specific to bonded and child labour, women & children’s rights, rights of elderly persons, disabled rights, right to healthcare, issues of fundamental freedoms, human trafficking, domestic violence, human rights violation due to police atrocities, custodial violence and torture, socio-economic disparities, rights of indigenous people, prison reforms, right to education, right to clean environment, right to work, right to equality before law, right to food and nutritional security etc.
