JBNSTS Vidyasagar Science Olympiad

Vidyasagar Science Olympiad Scheme is a great initiative by School Education Department, Government of West Bengal and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search, Kolkata to identify and nurture the talented students of class IX towards strengthening the contribution of the students in our state in the national and international Olympiad examination and compete in the global platform.

Who Can Apply?

Top 5 students of class IX (2021) based on the performance in the Annual Examination of Class VII [nominated by H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of a school] from all the Govt. and D.A. getting schools under WBBSE & all Non-Govt. recognized Aided and Sponsored schools are eligible to apply for the examination. HM/AHM/TIC of the school has to apply on behalf of the students from the school.

How To Apply?

Pease read all the instructions below, before the application process starts

Part – I : School’s Registration (By H.M./ A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school)
** Fill up the School Code correctly in the specified box and click on SUBMIT. School’s name, Block/ Municipal Corporation and District will automatically appeared in respective places.

** Fill up the boxes of School’s Address, Pin code, Name, Mobile no. & Email id of H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school.

** Upload the scanned copy of the Recommendation letter from H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school in School’s Letter Head containing top 5 (maximum) students’ name & their percentage (%) of Marks in Annual Examination of Class VII and the Signature of the individual student in single PDF file. (Please download the prescribed format of Recommendation Letter)

** Please check once again so that all the boxes are filled properly.
** Click on the “Please Proceed for Students’ Registration”.

** A new page will appear which shows the message – “Your School Record is successfully updated”. Then you have to click on the “Please click here to proceed for registration of students” hyperlink.

Part – II : Students’ Registration (responsibility has to be taken by H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school)
** School Code, School’s name, Block/ Municipal Corporation and District will automatically appeared in respective places.

** Fill up the 1st Student’s Name, Guardian’s Name and Gender.
** Fill up the contact number and Email id of the student (if any).
** Fill up the percentage (%) of Marks of the student obtained in Annual Examination of Class VII.

** Upload the scanned copy of recent Passport size photograph of the student in JPEG format in the specified place for that particular student.
** Upload the scanned copy of full signature of the student in JPEG format in the specified place for that particular student.

** Fill up the CAPTCHA CODE properly, appeared in the adjacent box.
** Click on the REGISTER Button.
** A message “STUDENT RECORD SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED” will be shown.
** Click on the “BACK” button just below the above message to register for next student.

Part – III :
** Please repeat the same (Sl. 2 – 10 of PART – II) procedure for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Students one after another.

** After submission of the information of the 5th candidate, “Already 5 (five) students (maximum number) have registered their name from (respective school’s name)” – message will be displayed and registration of further students cannot be made.

Exam Details

Layer 1

A test will be conducted among the schools under a unit (Total ~ 348 units : 341 blocks +7 municipal corporation ). Each unit of all individual district will be covered and finally top 10% students from each unit will qualify for second layer of examination.

Exam Pattern :
** Eligibility criteria – top 5 students of class IX of a school (nominated by H.M/A.H.M/T.I.C of a school based on the performance in the Annual Examination of class VII.

** Subjects – Physical Science, Life Science and Mathematical science.
** Question type – MCQ (There will be negative marking of ¼ marks for each wrong answer).

** Syllabus :- Syllabus of examination will be up to class VIII science syllabus of West Bengal Board.
** Full Marks – 100 (Physical Science 40, Life Science 30 and Mathematical Science 30) for 100 MCQs.

** Language of question – Bengali and English..
** Tentative date and time – June 27 (Sunday), 2021; 12:00 noon to 03:00 p.m. (3 hours).

** Examination Centers – There may be one examination centre in each of the Units (Block / Municipality).

Outcome :
** Top 3 candidates of each Unit will be awarded a book grant of Rs. 1000/- .
** Top 10% students of each Unit will qualify for second level.
** Top 10% students of each Unit will be acknowledged by participation certificate .

Layer 2

Intra District competition :
A test will be conducted for the top 10% qualified students from first level of all units of a district. Each district of West Bengal will be covered and finally top 20% students from each district will qualify for third layer of examination.

Examination pattern :
** Eligibility criteria – Top 10% students of each Unit qualifying first level.
** Subjects – Physical Science, Life Science and Mathematical science.
** Question type – MCQ (There will be negative marking of ½ marks for each wrong answer) for 100 MCQs

** Full Marks – 100 (Physical Science 40, Life Science 30 and Mathematical Science 30) for 100 MCQs.
** Language of question – Bengali and English.

** Tentative date and time – July 25 (Sunday), 2021; 12:00 noon to 03:00 p.m. (3 hours).
** Examination centers – There may be one examination centre in each District = 23 centres.

Outcome :
** Top 10 candidates of each District will be awarded a book grant of Rs. 2000/- .
** Top 20% students from each district (i.e., 960 students) will qualify for third level.

Layer 3

A test will be conducted among top 20% qualified students (960) from second level of all districts of our state. Finally top 100 students from West Bengal will be selected as scholarship awardees.

Examination Pattern :
** Eligibility criteria – Top 20% students from each district qualifying second level.
** Subjects – Physical Science, Life Science and Mathematical science.
** Question type – Short answer type (no negative marking).

** Full Marks – 60 (Physical Science 20, Life Science 20 and Mathematical Science 20).
** Language of question – Bengali and English.

** Tentative date and time – August 29 (Sunday), 2021 ; 12:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. (2 hours).
** Examination centers – There may be 10 examination centres in different zones of West Bengal.

Outcome :
** Finally top 100 hundred students from all over West Bengal will be selected as scholarship awardees. They will be awarded scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month during Class IX and X and annual book grant of Rs. 2500/- for two years and certificate

** Each of the selected students (100) will get the opportunity to participate two science workshops and there will be training session for individual subject wise National Olympiad Examination.

Deadlines

** Last date of application – May 15, 2021
** Admit card will be downloaded from http://vidyasagarscienceolympiad.jbnsts.ac.in/ during 12-06-2021 to 27-06-2021.
