What is Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition?

Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition is conducted by Greater Bombay Science Teachers’ Association. This unique four stage competition aims at arousing curiosity, problem solving attitude along with development of precision in observational and motor skills in young scientists. Theory Competition (level 1) of Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition 2023-24 will be conducted on Saturday 21St October 2023. Time 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Filling self details on OMR Sheet. Time 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Writing Answers.

** Enter your School Login ID
** Enter your Password and
** Click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Student Login (For Individuals) :

** Enter your OTP
** Click on the “Verify OTP” Button

Syllabus of Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition

Less emphasis will be given for knowledge based questions and more emphasis for understanding, reasoning, correlation, application etc. Majority of the questions will be from Maharashtra state board science text books and Content related to the above from ICSE,IB and CBSE science textbooks. The questions related to general knowledge in science and science around day to day life.

For 6th std.- Textbooks of 4th ,5th and 6th std. of Maharashtra State Board and Content related to the above from ICSE, IB and CBSE books
a) Approximately 10 % questions on 4th std. syllabus,
b) Approximately 20 % questions on 5th std. syllabus,
c) Approximately 60 % questions on 6th std. syllabus,
d) Approximately 10 % questions on General knowledge in science.

For 9th std. – Textbooks of VII ,VIII and IX std of Maharashtra State Board and Content related to the above from ICSE,IB and CBSE books.
a) Approximately 10 % questions on 7th std. syllabus
b) Approximately 20 % questions on 8th std. syllabus,
c) Approximately 60 % questions on 9th std. syllabus,
d) Approximately 10 % questions on General knowledge in science

Structure of the DHBBC Competition

Stages of Competition :-
** Theory competition
** Practical competition
** General interview
** Evaluation and interview on action research project

Phase No. : Phase I
Description of the phase : Written test
100 multiple choice questions based on science & General Knowledge in science as per standard
Max Marks : 100
Duration of exams : 90-min.
Selection Procedure :
** Selection for phase II – Merit wise Top 7.5% students per region per Marathi medium, English medium (Maharashtra SSC Board, English Medium (All other Boards) will be selected for phase II. They will get Merit Certificate.
** Remaining passed students will get Passing certificate.

Phase No. : Phase II
Description of the phase : Practical Test
For VI std.: There will be 5 experiments of 6 marks each based on general science.
For IX std. :
a) Physics: 1 experiment
b) Chemistry: 1 experiment
c) Biology: 10 questions based on 10 specimens
Max Marks : 30
Duration of exams : 30 min.
Selection Procedure :
** Selection for phase III and phase IV – 30% of the marks obtained in phase I + marks obtained in phase II will be considered.
** Merit wise Top 10 % students will be selected for phase III and IV

Phase No. : Phase III
Description of the phase : General interview
Max Marks : 30
Duration of exams : 5 to 7 min.
Selection Procedure :
Selection for Medal : Considering 30% marks of Phase I, + Marks score of (Phase II + Phase III + Phase IV)
** Merit wise Top 10% candidates will get Gold Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 3000/-.
** Next 60% candidates will get Silver Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 2000/-
** Remaining all candidates will get Bronze Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 1000/-

Phase No. : Phase IV
Description of the phase : Evaluation of action research project and interview on action research work.
Max Marks : 30
Duration of exams : 5 to 7 min.
Selection Procedure :
Selection for Medal : Considering 30% marks of Phase I, + Marks score of (Phase II + Phase III + Phase IV)
** Merit wise Top 10% candidates will get Gold Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 3000/-.
** Next 60% candidates will get Silver Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 2000/-
** Remaining all candidates will get Bronze Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 1000/-

General Instructions for DHBBC

1. Particulars to be Noted : Please note carefully your Roll Number, date, time and venue for this examination. Candidates arriving late at the examination centre will not be permitted to enter the Examination Hall.

2. Sample answersheet and How To Fill Biodata Information On It : The last sheet of the booklet is a sample of the answersheet. Fill in the required biodata information on this answersheet for your practice and bring it with you to the examination hall. How to fill in the biodata information on the answersheet is explained and shown on page no.

5. You will get a similar answersheet in the examination hall, on which you will have to copy the biodata information already filled in by you on to the specimen answersheet. You will take the sample answersheet with you after the examination is over.

3. Compliance with Instructions : You should scrupulously follow the instructions given by the test administrators and the invigilators at the examination venue at all stages of the examination for which you have been called. If you violate the instructions you will be disqualified and may also be asked to leave the examination hall.

4. Use of Books, Notes, Mobile and Copying Or Receiving/Giving Assistance Not Allowed : No calculator separate or with watch, tables, books, note- books or written notes will be allowed inside the examination hall. Any candidate who is found either copying or receiving or giving assistance will be disqualified. If copying is detected while assessing the answersheet the concerned candidates will be disqualified.

5. Use of Black Ball Point Pen : Candidates should bring with them two black ball point pens. Candidate should fill in all the information using black ball point pen. The Supervisor should sign his/her signature in invigilator’s column on the answersheet by BALLPEN ONLY.

6. Handling answersheet :
Please be careful not to handle your answersheet carelessly. If it is mutilated, torn, folded, wrinkled or rolled, it may not be assessed. Answersheet and question papers will be supplied by the association. After the test is over, you should hand over the answersheet to the invigilator before leaving the exam hall.

Any candidate who does not return the answersheet or is found to attempt to take or pass on the answersheet inside, or outside the exam hall will be disqualified and the association may take further action against him as per rules of association.
