What is MTTS Initiation into Mathematics InitMath Programme?

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematical Sciences, Tezpur University, Assam during January 03-08, 2024. All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material. Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants. Outstation participants will also be provided with Government bus fare/Sleeper class train return fare whichever is the least on production of original tickets.

Eligibility of Initiation into Mathematics InitMath

Second year undergradugate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Students from states in the north east region will be given preference. The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.

Selection of Initiation into Mathematics InitMath

The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.
Academic programme :
There will be courses in Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. The courses will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology.

FAQ on  Mathematics Training and Talent Search

When will the programme be held? What will be the schedule?
Please check the programme webpage for dates.
There will be four sessions every day; two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Morning sessions will be followed by a discussion session. Exact schedule will be distributed to the selected candidates later.

What will be the subjects that are going to be taught in the workshop?
Level O: Subjects taught will be any three chosen from Foundations, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, and Number Theory.
Levels I and II: Subjects taught will be three chosen from Algebra, Analysis, Topology and Linear Algebra.

Will there be any tests or exams at the end of the programme?
No, but there may be some form of periodical evaluation, mainly for self-assessment.

Will the participants get a certificate at the end of the programme?
Certificates will be issued to the participants upon successfully completing the program.

Can one join the programme after a few days?
No, you will not be permitted to join after the first day. Exceptions may be made for former participants with good performance, but prior approval will be needed even in these cases.
