Kallola :

A Short Film Contest on Child Rights invites creative minds to speak out and raise awareness on the rights of children through the medium of short films. The theme for 2016 contest is ‘Discrimination against Girls’.

Too many children start their lives burdened by inequalities and are discriminated on gender, class, religion and caste and if the child is a girl she is often doubly or triply burdened. Kallola-2 is an attempt towards raising awareness on such discrimination against girls. It is an initiative of aaina, supported by UNICEF.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE :
Step 1: All you need to do is complete the online registration form (link). This enrolls you to participate in the Kallola Short film Contest. You will get a confirmatory response that you are registered as a participant.
Step 2: Shortly after registration, you will be expected to attend a day-long workshop, to understand the issue of child rights and the theme, use of short film format to communicate social issues followed by discussion on the rules, regulations and awards.
**Though it is not mandatory, we would like to encourage all of you to participate in this workshop to enhance your knowledge and skills so it reflects in the films you make for the contest.

Step3: Make sure that you go through all the rules & regulations of the contest and familiarize yourself with the submission criteria before filling up the entry form.

(Note: Ensure that you obtain written consent from all those being filmed as per UNICEF and NCPCR guidelines to avoid any litigation)

Step 4: The contest will be open from 10th March to 30th May 2016. In case you need clarifications please contact us on 0674-2360630/9238111127 or mail us at kallola@aaina.org.in
Step 5: The last date for submission of the entries is 30th May’16. Make sure that you have completed all the formalities and all forms and formats for submission as mentioned in step 3 are adhered and submitted with your film. You will get an acknowledgement for the receipt of your entry.
Step 6: Your entry once received will be reviewed along with the submitted documents. Incase any of them are missing/ not complete/do not adhere to the specified norms we will not be able to consider your entry for the contest.
Step 7: A renowned jury will review the films. Children as jury will also review the films for the Children’s Choice Award.
Step 8: The awards ceremony to felicitate the winners will be held in July 2016.

SUBMISSION RULES AND REGULATIONS :
** Each entry should focus on the theme mentioned.
** Film makers can submit a maximum of 2 entries each
** Multiple entries (more than 2) cannot be submitted by the same person under different portfolios. (as director/camera person /producer etc)
** Length of each film submitted must fit either of the categories: 30 sec, 60 sec or 90 sec including credit plate of 5 sec.
** All entries must be submitted in any ONE of the following formats: MOV, MPEG or AVI
** Two DVDs of each entry has to be submitted along with the entry form. Award winning films will have to be re-submitted in a portable hard drive to avoid generation loss.
** Language of the entry should be Odia/Hindi with English subtitles.
** The film maker is responsible for the authenticity of the work. The onus of the information provided in the entry form and declaration lies entirely with the film maker.
** The use of copyright materials (music, images etc) is not allowed, unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material – which must be produced at time of submission of entries.
** Contest period opens on 10th March and closes on 30th May 2016. Entries submitted after 30th May will not be considered for the contest.
** The costs incurred by the filmmakers for making the film will have to be borne by the film makers themselves.

AWARDS :
** Entries received and which fulfill the submission criteria will be short listed by the organizers. The short listed films will be judged by a panel of eminent jury members. The three best films across all sub themes will be selected for First, Second and Third prize. In addition, there is a Children’s Choice Award for a film selected by children and a Jury Choice Award.
** The decision of the Jury will be final and at no point the organizer and/or UNICEF will be held responsible for the selection process or result of the judging event.

FAQ :

1) Who all can participate?
All film enthusiasts whether amateur or professional may participate.
Film makers, students, advertising professionals, broadcast professionals, media agencies.

2) What is the theme of the contest?
This year’s theme is ‘Discrimination against Girls’ The same has been described in detail in the theme page.

3) How many films can be entered by one person / group/institution/club?
Each person /group/institution/club can submit a maximum of 2 entries. Entries have to relate to the theme. One person cannot submit more than two entries under different portfolios (as director/producer/cameraman etc)

4) In whose name will the certificates be given in case of group /institution or club?
Certificates will be issued in the name of the film director in case of group/institution /club.

5) Can a film be submitted jointly by a group, institution or club?
Yes anyone can participate. In case of a group /institution or club you need to decide who will be the lead person to sign and submit the entry form.

6) Is there an age limit for participation?
The contest is open to all who are 18 years and above in the general category.

7) Can people from Odisha residing/ studying/ working outside Odisha participate?
Yes. However they must have a contact address in Odisha and the film has to be in Odia /Hindi with subtitles in English.

8) What should be the duration of the film?
For the competitive segment the, duration of the film can be 30 seconds/ 60 seconds/ 90 seconds.( including 5 sec of credit plate)

9) What format should the film be submitted ?
All entries ust be submitted in either : MOV/ MPVEG/ AVI formats
Award winning film makers will be required to submit their entries in a portable hard drive to avoid any generation loss.
